The line chart above illustrates a developing country’s birth rate and death rate from 1900 to 1970 .
It can be seen from the line chart that the death rate fluctuated during the 70 years. In 1900, the death rate was 4% which remained unchanged for a decade. But in the second decade from 1910 to 1920, it rose sharply to a record high of 6%. From then on, the death rate declined constantly and reached a record low of 2% in 1970. However, the death rate fluctuated between 2.5% and 3% during the twenty years from 1930 to 1950.
It can also be seen that during the same period of time, the birth rate was more stable than the death rate. In the first 30 years of the 20th century, the birth rate declined a little from 4% in 1900 to 3.5% in 1930. The next decade saw a fast increase of the birth rate which reached a record high of 5% in 1940. Since then, the birth rate went down constantly to a record low of 3.5% in 1970.
We can conclude from the chart that the birth rate was lower than the death rate before 1930, and after that, it surpassed the death rate.
